“We selected Case IH as a member benefit program partner because they offer product expertise and field support, as well as the resources of a leading tractor manufacturer,” says Ron Gaskill, Executive Director of AFBI. “The program’s goal is to provide Farm Bureau members with greater value when they purchase or lease eligible equipment.”

Case IH Donates Two Tractors, Front Loader, Utility Vehicle to New Urban Ag Program at MPS' Vincent High School

RACINE, WIS. -- Urban Agriculture students at Milwaukee Public Schools’ Harold S. Vincent High School will soon be able to turn acres of their campus into an open-air classroom thanks to a generous donation from Racine-based Case IH announced Thursday.

Case IH, a global leader in agriculture equipment, has donated two tractors, a front loader and a utility vehicle to the new Urban Ag program at Vincent.

The school and students plan to use the equipment to assist in planting crops –perhaps including alfalfa, corn and oats – on Vincent’s 92-acre far-northwest Milwaukee campus. The crops will be donated to local farmers and/or the Wisconsin State Fair for animal feed.

“We see this as a joint opportunity,” explained Kyle Russell, Senior Director of Marketing for Case IH North America. “We make it our focus at Case IH to help producers be ready for the challenges and opportunities they encounter every day. One of those challenges is educating the next generation about agriculture. So it presents a path to a career for these students and a new source of employees for our industry.”

“These are critical tools that connect our students with real college and career pathways,” MPS Superintendent Gregory Thornton said. “We couldn’t be more grateful.”

Milwaukee is a hub of the urbanagriculture movement, including companies such as Growing Power and Sweet Water Organics who produce healthy food locally. The area is also a hub for food manufacturing. According to regional economic development group Milwaukee 7, the Milwaukee region ishome to the highest concentration of food and beverage manufacturing talent among the nation’s 50 largest metro areas. The region also boasts the nation’s third highest concentration of food scientists.

The new program at Vincent, launched this school year, directly connects students to those college and career pathways with coursework that covers urban agriculture, aquaponics, biotechnology/biofuels, botany, food science, landscape/design, urban gardening/horticulture and veterinary science. In additionto the new equipment, students have access to and help operate a bee apiary, a greenhouse and a “hoop” house.

The program partners with two Milwaukee-based leaders in the urban agriculture field --Growing Power and Sweet Water --along with FaBMilwaukee, Milwaukee Area Technical College, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and its WATER Institute and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

Instructors in the program –science faculty members Rich DePalma and Mark Hladilek and Career and Technical Education (CTE) faculty members Kyle Slick and Kevin Hach –worked through Cardinal Stritch University to develop an aquaponics curriculum tied to the rigorous Next Generation Science Frameworks.

Hach calls the gift “extremely valuable. It will mean being able to efficiently turn over the fields to prepare them with proper soil conditions and maintain whatever we put in the field.” The gift allows instructors to expand and deepen Urban Ag opportunities for students.

Students in the program with driver’s licenses will be trained to operate the equipment and maintain the crops. And Hach, who also teaches automotive courses at Vincent with instructor Tim Long, said students will also have the opportunity to learn how to perform preventative maintenance on the equipment as well as to diagnose and service it.

The announcement was made Thursday at an event that included Vincent instructors, MPS Superintendent Gregory Thornton, Vincent Principal Matthew Boswell, Case IH Senior Director of Marketing Kyle Russell and State Rep. Fred Kessler (D-Milwaukee).

The news drew interest from agriculture journalist Pam Jahnke, host of Farm Report with Pam Jahnke, who hosted her show from the site Wednesday morning.

“I’m excited to broadcast the news not just as a farm broadcaster, but also as a member of the Wisconsin Agricultural Education and Workforce Development Council,” Jahnke said.

New Case IH Farmall C Tractors Ready to Meet Everyday Challenges

Three new utility powerhouses meet the demand for rugged, yet comfortable and easy-to-operate, equipment to get day-to-day jobs done:

           • Farmall 85C with 75 PTO HP
• Farmall 95C with 85 PTO HP
• Farmall 105C with 95 PTO HP

“These versatile utility models are ready to meet any challenge on your ever- growing task list during longer work days, whether you are mixing feed or baling hay,” says Greg Lucey, Case IH Farmall Tractors Marketing Manager. “These tractors also meet emissions standards with Tier 4A engines.”

POWERFUL

Tough at heart with updated clean-diesel technology, the new Farmall C models use Tier 4A-compliant Case IH FPT 4-cylinder 3.4-L turbocharged and intercooled engines. Precise electronic metering of fuel delivered with electronic high-pressure common-rail fuel injection provides a more efficient combustion process. This means improved efficiency, extended engine life and improved cold-engine starting. But most importantly, it provides efficient power. “This unique fuel injection system provides greater fuel savings, all while maintaining high horsepower levels,” says Lucey.

Glow plugs warm the engine prior to a cold-weather start, eliminating the need to use ether for more reliable starting in freezing temperatures.

Proven 12-speed forward, 12-speed reverse transmissions are designed with operator productivity in mind. The three Farmall C units use a synchronized, mechanical shuttle, wet- or dry-clutch transmission. If the application demands it, upgraded transmission options are available.

COMFORTABLE, PRODUCTIVE ENVIRONMENT

The newly designed Farmall cab goes a step above the rest to make the operator’s day better and more productive with more user-friendly controls and features. Reworked internal control ergonomics provide best-in-class productivity and minimize operator fatigue:
• Easy-to-read instrument cluster tilts with the steering column
• Integrated position for loader joystick
• Remote valves in a more accessible position\

With the optional high-visibility roof panel, visibility to the loader and other attachments is unmatched among tractors in this class. The optional instructor seat comfortably allows two adults to be in the cab together. No other tractor provides such easy access to the driver’s seat, which can be upgraded to air suspension with a 15-degree swivel to make repetitive tasks less monotonous.

The new climate control system revolutionizes in-cab comfort. The improved HVAC system, which is now in the flat-deck floor instead of in the roof, has 10 adjustable vents providing superior control during those long days that are hot, cold or dusty.
For operators who prefer a wide-open platform with zero obstructions, the Farmall C models are also available in ROPs configurations.

VERSATILE

These new models provide versatile performance without sacrificing value. Owners can choose between standard factory-installed regular or heavy-duty loaders with either non-self-leveling or mechanical self-leveling 72- or 84-inch Skid Steer style buckets. A standard grille guard is included for added protection. The Farmall C is also available in ROPS/cab and 4WD/2WD configurations.

Tackle loads with the standard 12.5-gpm hydraulic pump. If more flow is needed, upgrade to 16.9 gpm. Up to two rear remotes offer quick connections for a variety of functions requiring hydraulics.

“The new Farmall C tractors are your powerful, tough, versatile and comfortable companions ready to handle any chore – all day long,” says Lucey. “With 90 years of Farmall tradition under our belt, these tractors raise the bar of excellence and will keep you coming back for more.”

Survey Shows Producers Plan to Innovate With New Technology, Cropping Practices in 2013

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Producers will continue to embrace new farming practices in 2013, according to survey results presented at Ag Connect Expo & Summit (ACES) in Kansas City on Jan. 30. According to the survey, which was sponsored by Case IH, 85 percent of the 1,109 producer respondents are considering new cropping practices and technologies for this year’s growing season. The results were revealed at an ACES presentation by Brian and Darren Hefty, co-hosts of RFD-TV’s weekly Ag PhD program.

“These survey results are not surprising,” says Brian, who operates Hefty Seed Co. and farms approximately 2,500 acres with Darren near Baltic, S.D. “Agriculture is driven by new technologies. Farmers face new challenges with each cropping year. It might be drought, flooding, new diseases or high fertilizer prices – it’s a seemingly endless list. Innovative solutions and technology are how we’re going to be able to create a better growing environment and positively impact the farm’s bottom line.”

“As one would expect, survey respondents are willing to try new technology that has the potential to increase yield or reduce input costs,” adds Darren. “This is especially true for technology that can increase yields since it has the most impact on producer profitability.”

COVER CROPS MAKE A COME BACK

Cover crops are the top farming practice that will be tried for the first time in 2013 with 24 percent of respondents planning to plant them. “We’re seeing resurgence in cover crop use for multiple reasons,” says Brian. “They can improve soil tilth, water infiltration, organic matter levels, and soil fertility, as well as reduce erosion and suppress weeds. Clearly, a single cover crop will not accomplish all of these benefits. Producers need to determine their goals as each potential benefit may require a different seeding program.”

Another practice to improve soil health – vertical tillage – ranked as a close No. 2 with 23 percent of respondents planning to use a vertical-tillage tool to maintain conservation benefits of residue while making it more manageable at planting time. \

“Vertical tillage prior to planting is becoming more popular every year,” says Darren. “The need to manage corn stalks in a no-till system is one reason. Other reasons are to incorporate manure, lime or fertilizer into the soil, as well as conditioning the seedbed prior to planting.”

Rounding out the top five new farming practices to be tried for the first time in 2013 were resuming deep tillage (22 percent), no-tillage (18 percent) and strip tillage (15 percent).

ACCELERATED ADOPTION OF PRECISION FARMING

New precision farming tools will play a significant role in farming operations in 2013, especially during the planting season. Variable-rate fertilizer application will be used by 27 percent of survey respondents for the first time as a way to reduce production costs and increase yields. “Farmers are seeing additional profits with variable-rate fertilizer applications as they are able to increase grain yields without increasing total nutrient inputs,” says Brian. “This is especially true with today’s grain and fertilizer prices.”

Autosteer on the planter tractor ranked as the second most popular precision farming method (25 percent) to ensure accuracy and increase productivity by being able to plant day or night in difficult visibility conditions. “This technology can improve efficiency without changing other management practices,” says Darren. “Autosteer helps reduce planter overlaps and skips. Even small errors prove costly when all inputs such as seed, fertilizer, fuel and labor are considered.”

Grid sampling tied with autosteer on the planter tractor as the second most popular precision farming method with 25 percent of survey respondents planning to use it for the first time in 2013. Rounding out the top five new precision farming methods are yield and moisture mapping (22 percent) and field mapping for the planter (22 percent).

MORE EFFICIENT EQUIPMENT

Engineering advances are the norm for equipment manufacturers. “Farmers need to be more productive and efficient with their land,” says Brian. “Manufacturers are responding to customer needs with not only bigger equipment, but more innovative equipment that is efficient and versatile.”

Survey respondents’ top new equipment pick is a perfect example of innovation and efficiency. Vertical tillage tools will be used by 23 percent of survey respondents for the first time in 2013. “Farmers can pull these tools with less horsepower and at higher speeds, so they cover more acres per hour than they could with a disk or field cultivator,” says Darren.

“Vertical tillage is proving its value for producers who want a smooth, even seed bed for spring planting without compromising erosion control,” adds Brian. “It chops up residue, but does not bury it, which can help poorly drained soils dry more quickly. It’s a fast, fuel efficient way to level the ground and improve the seed bed. It can also help warm up the soil profile more quickly in spring so farmers can get into fields a little earlier and plant into a well-prepared seedbed.”

Tools to help farmers be more efficient also filled out the No. 2 and No. 3 spots with wider planters and seeders to be used by 20 percent of producers for the first time and self-propelled sprayers being used by 15 percent. Strip-till units (14 percent) and tractors with tracks (13 percent) complete the list of top five new equipment purchases in 2013.

RACINE, Wis. — Sometimes bigger isn’t always better – particularly when it comes to getting equipment into the field. That’s why the new Case IH Patriot® 2240 – a Class 2, self-propelled sprayer – is such an important addition to the Patriot sprayer line.

“The Patriot 2240 sprayer is smaller, lighter and offers a narrower track spacing than its larger family members and boasts more ground clearance than any competitive sprayer in its class. These attributes make it better suited for the owner-operator with specialty crops or smaller fields,” says Mark Burns, Case IH Application Equipment Marketing Manager.

Case IH used the customer-driven design process to determine producer needs and married that information with current agriculture trends to develop the Patriot 2240. The Patriot 2240 sprayer shares the same DNA as its larger siblings, the Patriot 3230, 3330 and 4430 self-propelled sprayers. For instance, it keeps the already-successful cab-forward, rear-engine configuration to ensure optimum weight distribution to minimize compaction or rutting potential, which is key when operators need to access wet fields during short spray windows. The best-in-class trailing-link suspension offers a superb ride and the three-speed hydrostatic transmission provides smooth, reliable shifting and efficient transfer of engine power to the ground. The Patriot 2240 offers big sprayer features like optional automatic boom section control, automatic boom height control, AFS AccuGuide autoguidance and the exclusive AIM Command® spray system.

“Sprayer operators are always looking to improve equipment efficiency. The Patriot 2240 offers two boom lengths, two different plumbing configurations, a centrally located service center and a wide range of precision agriculture technology options all of which are designed to provide a quality application and make the best use of your time in the field. Producers and commercial applicators can easily and quickly learn how to operate the Patriot 2240, plus be remarkably precise when spraying,” says Burns.

The Patriot 2240 joins the Efficient Power family, delivering more productivity with less fuel. Fuel economy is another area where the Patriot 2240 shines. The new sprayer comes with a Tier 4A-compliant 165 HP, 6.7-liter Case IH FPT engine. This Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)-only system has already successfully proven it can offer fuel savings of up to 10 percent over Tier 3 engines – and Case IH FPT SCR engines have proven that control of certain emissions is superior to competitors’ systems.

“Our SCR-only system is proprietary and protected by over a half-dozen patents. It’s been a huge success and reaction from our customers has been very positive, so we’re pleased to offer SCR on the Patriot 2240 sprayer,” says Burns.

Case IH Talks Agronomic Design at Ag Connect Expo '13

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The many equipment innovations of Case IH at the 2013 Ag Connect Expo and Summit share more than paint color. According to company representatives from the executive to the field levels, they were all born from a focus on Agronomic Design.

“It’s something we’ve always done,” says Jim Walker, Vice President of Case IH North America Agricultural Equipment. “We have a unique focus and ability to find ways to help producers improve their soil-seed-plant growing environment, so we put a name to it – Agronomic Design. It allows us to tie together parallel activities with the shared focus of maximizing the yield and ROI potential of our customers.”

The Case IH Agronomic Design initiative unites ongoing work in multiple disciplines within Case IH, including customer research, product development, field support, training and marketing. In addition to ongoing product development work, Case IH Agronomic Design efforts will include sharing information and expertise to help producers make the most of each seed’s yield potential.

“We’re committed to delivering more agronomic advantages to farmers through both equipment technology and our people, who are equipped with years of field expertise,” he adds. “We want to help customers be ready to make the most of every seed’s yield potential, and that’s the value of Case IH Agronomic Design.”

FIELD EXPERTISE SUPPORTS INITIATIVE

A deep understanding of production agriculture and agronomic principles is fundamental to the Case IH design process. The field expertise of Case IH personnel – from engineers to locally-based product specialists – helps customers get the most out of every seed’s yield potential, no matter what Mother Nature may bring.

“Case IH equipment is designed to get farmers in and out of fields faster, so they can get more done during short operating windows,” says Bill Preller, Senior Director of Specialty Business, Case IH North America. “Our equipment is flexible and durable enough to reliably operate in a variety of conditions while still providing an optimum soil-seed-plant growing environment. Our design teams have supplemented their agronomic expertise with both field data and field experience to find new and innovative ways to create a better growing environment. Similarly, our field team supports local dealers and provides customers with knowledgeable advice to help them make the most of Case IH technology.”

AGRONOMIC DESIGN EQUIPMENT INNOVATIONS

Case IH Agronomic Design extends across the entire Case IH line, and is evident in existing equipment, as well as in the newest Case IH products:

Steiger® Rowtrac™: The four-track design of the new Case IH Steiger Rowtrac tractor adapts Quadtrac® advantages for row-crop scenarios. It distributes loads evenly across the length of each track, even when heavy loads put force on rear tracks. It minimizes compaction with more flotation, turns tight without berming and pulls harder with less rutting, all to maintain soil tilth and improve seedbed conditions.

Precision Disk drill: This all-new single disk drill easily cuts through residue and opens a uniform seed trench across varying soil and tillage conditions. It also accurately delivers the seed and closes and seals the trench for improved germination and plant-stand establishment.

Patriot® 2240 sprayers: These sprayers deliver near-equal weight distribution, when the tank is full and continuously as it empties, to help customers get into fields earlier. Field tests have shown that Patriot sprayers can provide field access two or three days sooner than competitive sprayers, along with less rutting and soil compaction. In addition, the Patriot 2240 sprayer is smaller and more nimble for maneuverability in tight fields. It features exclusive AIM Command® spray technology to deliver even, consistent coverage, and better drift control.

THE AGRONOMIC ADVANTAGE

“Crop yields are the product of both seed genetics and real world growing conditions,” says Preller. “Improving the soil-seed-plant growing environment helps producers maximize both their yield and ROI potential, regardless of weather conditions. Our Agronomic Design initiative will be evident beginning at the Ag Connect Exposition & Summit in Kansas City, where we’ll begin talking about our efforts.”

Case IH is a global leader in agricultural equipment, committed to collaborating with its customers to develop the most powerful, productive, reliable equipment – designed to meet today’s agricultural challenges.
Case IH Robo-Sharpener Wins ASABE's Silver Innovation Award

RACINE, Wis. — The Case IH Robo-Sharpener – the first manually supervised “field-service robot” for sharpening wavy or regular tillage blades on the company’s True-Tandem™ 330 Turbo – has received a Silver Innovation award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) and Ag Connect Expo.

“We are honored that the innovation behind the Robo-Sharpener has been recognized by the agriculture equipment industry,” says Rob Zemenchik, Case IH Crop Production Marketing Manager. The Robo-Sharpener had been designated a 2012 AE50 award winner in recent months.

ABOUT THE SILVER INNOVATION AWARD

From the many entries submitted, an expert panel of engineers annually selects up to 50 “best of the best” products available for purchase or ordering during the calendar year to receive AE50 awards.

Presented every two years, the Gold and Silver Innovation awards are a new level of recognition for the ASABE’s AE50 awards. Recipients are chosen by a panel of agricultural equipment editors from leading farm publications and ASABE member engineers. Only products that received an AE50 award in the past two years are eligible for a Gold or Silver Innovation award. To qualify for a Gold or Silver award, the company that manufactures a product must be a 2013 Ag Connect exhibitor.

The awards were presented on Tuesday, Jan. 29, as part of the Ag Connect Expo opening ceremonies in Kansas City, Mo.

ABOUT THE ROBO-SHARPENER

The True-Tandem 330 Turbo features patented low-concavity wavy blades, which, like other ground-engaging tools, can eventually turn dull. Case IH recognized the opportunity to provide customers with further value by inventing a sharpener to extend the life of the wavy or regular tillage blades, and the Robo-Sharpener was the answer.

The system sharpens a Case IH Turbo blade in just a few minutes and also can sharpen standard concavity disk blades. Equipped with a trolley system, the Robo-Sharpener rolls along a rail from blade to blade for easy repeatability. Because it’s mounted to the implement, sharpening can occur anywhere, even on unlevel ground. A gang driver rotates the blades at the ideal speed while being sharpened. This balance also keeps heat away from the target blade, so steel integrity is not compromised.

After using the Robo-Sharpener, the blades will have a restored cutting edge that can slice through tough residue and penetrate hard soil.

“A gleaming, fresh edge emerges within seconds, giving the blade the full cutting capability it had when new,” says Zemenchik. “The toughest cornstalks will be no match for a freshly sharpened True-Tandem 330 Turbo.”

The economics are attractive, too. While sharpening labor and applicable travel costs vary by area, utilizing the Robo-Sharpener from a local Case IH dealer can save up to 85 percent of the cost to re-blade an implement.

“This offers tremendous savings for Case IH customers who want top performance from their vertical tillage tools or disks, because you no longer have to prematurely re-blade machines,” Zemenchik explains. “Resharpening multiple times for multiple savings is now feasible.”

Additional value is gained from having sharp implement blades.

Zemenchik adds: “Sharp blades enhance nutrient cycling of phosphorus and potassium in crop residues. And, tire damage is reduced because sharp blades help manage root crowns from stiff cornstalks.”

Case IH Helps Make Every Seed Count With New Precision Disk Drills

RACINE, Wis. — Redesigned from the ground up, the all-new Precision Disk single-disk air drills deliver best-in-class seed placement accuracy for an array of crops grown in diverse conditions and geographies. The new offering includes the Precision Disk 500T with an on-board bulk seed tank in 25-, 30- and 40-foot working widths and the Precision Disk 500 in 30- and 40-foot sizes, which are paired with a tow-between or tow-behind air cart.

At the heart of each Precision Disk drill is a completely new row unit, engineered to help Case IH customers achieve more even emergence and improved plant stand establishment when seeding crops like soybeans, wheat, milo and hybrid rice. The new design delivers accurate seed placement and depth control across varying soil and tillage conditions, as well as more consistent seed-to-soil contact. These drills can cover more acres each day with increased field speeds and quicker cycle times when moving from field to field. They also are easily adjustable and require less daily maintenance, allowing more time for seeding during those critical spring or fall seeding windows.

“Producers can seed with confidence with the Case IH Precision Disk 500 and 500T drills,” says Dale Simpson, Case IH Seeding Marketing Manager. “These drills have been thoroughly tested on more than 55,000 acres since 2009. They are designed to help producers maximize their acres seeded per day with increased operating speeds and exceptional versatility.”

MAXIMIZE YOUR YIELD POTENTIAL

“The new Case IH single-disk row unit sets a higher standard for seeding,” adds Simpson. “Our agronomic design cuts through residue, opens a uniform seed trench, accurately delivers the seed and closes and seals the trench for improved germination and plant-stand establishment.”

Single-bevel 18-inch disks are set at a 7-degree angle to slice through residue and open a high-quality seed trench, even at shallow depths, while also minimizing hair pinning of residue in the seed trench.

The Case IH Precision Disk parallel-link row unit design helps ensure unmatched seed placement accuracy for improved emergence and stand establishment. Patent-pending variable down-pressure springs apply the right amount of pressure on individual row units to ensure better penetration across varying residue and soil conditions. In addition, the forward-facing seed tube design directs the seed, working in conjunction with the scraper, for more consistent placement in the bottom of the seed trench.

To close and seal the seed trench, the newly designed double-edged closing wheels, with three easy-to adjust pressure settings, eliminate air pockets and ensure good seed-to-soil contact. These new press wheels have been designed and tested to endure in the higher speed operations, variable soil and high residue conditions experienced by today’s growers across North America.

Hydraulic down pressure across the full width of the disk drill can be adjusted either manually or via in-cab display option. Three convenient presets help maintain ideal row unit down pressure for changing field conditions and making it easier to adjust “on the run.”

INCREASE YOUR PRODUCTIVITY

Case IH Precision Disk drill owners can get more done each day because these drills provide the tire packages and walking-beam axle options that will allow you to “shift-up” when appropriate – while maintaining accurate seed placement across a wide spectrum of field and tillage practices.

In addition, operators will spend more time in the field and less in transport, with some of the industry’s narrowest transport widths. Operators can quickly and easily move from field to transport mode, and back again. In addition, overall machine length and working widths make the Precision Disk drills easy to transport and improve field maneuverability.

HIGH VERSATILITY

Case IH Precision Disk drills provide seeding flexibility across multiple crops and conditions:

• Three meter-roller options provide accurate metering across a wide range of crops, including soybeans, wheat, hybrid rice, milo or other small grains.

• Single, easy-to-reach “T” handles select and lock in seeding depth with one adjustment – no tools necessary. Depth settings range from zero to 3.5 inches in 14 increments.

• Rugged, reliable frames hold up to changing field conditions, even going from no-till to conventional with minimal time-robbing adjustments.

“The main center-frame is oriented in a “V” to evenly distribute the weight across the carrying wheels,” says Simpson. “The orientation provides exceptional weight distribution, especially in softer soils, and it adds additional stability during transport.”

In addition, Case IH Precision Disk drills deliver an integrated, less complex precision farming solution with Advanced Farming Systems® (AFS) and the AFS Pro 700 display. Built on industry-compatible architecture, AFS can interface with a farmer’s existing ISO 11783 compliant equipment no matter what the brand.

ADDITIONAL MODEL FEATURES

The Precision Disk 500T includes an integral mounted seed tank, which makes it the first air drill in the Case IH lineup to have an on-board bulk seed tank. Available in 70-bushel capacity for the 25- and 30-foot sizes, and the 40-foot size comes with a 100-bushel tank. The close-coupled design of the 500T allows for work in small, irregularly shaped fields and easy transport, making it a perfect fit in areas where the dill and air cart “train” system just doesn’t fit operational needs.

The 500T offers optional AFS four-section overlap control to help producers reduce input costs and increase yields by eliminating overlap on turn rows and in odd-shaped fields. Two-section manual shutoff is standard, and a GPS four-section control is optional.

All Precision Disk 500T drill features can be managed with the AFS Pro 700 monitor. The AFS Pro 700’s convenient, one-page seeding display keeps all the necessary information close at hand. New flow sensors provide accurate population estimates for larger seeded crops. A bar graph shows target rates and seeding flow. GPS or radar speed inputs provide accurate seeding-rate information.

Alternatively, the Precision Disk 500 is available in 30- and 40-foot working widths. It uses an external seed supply air cart in either tow-between or tow-behind configurations, making it popular for operations looking for higher capacity, as well as those seeking the ability to apply a dry fertilizer product with seed. When paired with a Case IH Precision Air cart, the Precision Disk 500 features optional variable-rate hydraulic seed metering controlled through the AFS Pro 700 monitor.

“Our customers asked for more accuracy, more productivity and more versatility for improved seeding results,” says Simpson. “The new Precision Disk 500 and 500T drills deliver on those requests. Customers can improve their results with accurate seed populations, improved residue handling and seed depth control, uniform seed-to-soil contact and even emergence.”

Case IH Awards Illinois Farmer iPad for Sharing His Experience

RACINE, Wis. — Brian Kreiter of Pekin, Ill., has never owned an iPad. His daughters’ iPhones and iPods were the limit of his experience. But thanks to his entry in a Case IH Facebook page contest around FFA, he now owns his very own iPad.

The contest occurred in conjunction with the National FFA Convention this past fall. Case IH Facebook fans were asked to submit their photos with captions showing how Case IH is helping them be ready for a career in agriculture. The photos then were voted on by other Facebook users. Kreiter’s post received the most votes, making him the winner of a new 16GB Apple iPad 3 with Wi-Fi capability.

The farm Kreiter works for used Case IH tractors during a demonstration this past fall, and Kreiter was very impressed.

“I’ve operated other brands of tractors, but the Case IH machines operate better and more accurately,” says Kreiter. “The Case IH tractor is user-friendly and so much easier to program.”

Kreiter’s Facebook post reflected his experience running the Case IH equipment during harvest. It was his first time using Case IH equipment — a Steiger® 550.

“The dealer showed me how to set up the programming, and you hit the ‘resume’ button, and that’s it, once you have everything set up,” he said. “In addition, the single joystick was very intuitive and easy to use.”

The tractor’s power impressed Kreiter as well.

“I was really surprised by the power,” he said. “It was no problem for it to pull an attached implement that was five inches in the ground, pulling at a 6 percent grade.”

While the tractor’s features left a positive impression on Kreiter, the local Case IH dealer’s above-and-beyond service solidified his Case IH experience.

“I was running the tractor at about 10 p.m., and the diesel exhaust fluid alarm went off. I wasn’t sure what was going on, so I called the dealer. I figured I’d need to shut down and the dealer would be out first thing in the morning. When I explained to the dealer what was going on, he told me not to shut down. I had about 6-8 gallons of DEF left, and he said he would bring it to top it off,” Kreiter said. “We’re about 40 miles from the dealer, so I told him he didn’t have to do that. Sure enough, he came about a half hour later.”

Sponsored by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), the AE50 awards annually recognizes the top 50 most innovative new agriculture products introduced this year. This year’s Case IH award recipients include the 2013 Axial-Flow® combine cab, the pivoting grain spout on the Axial-Flow combine, the Nutri-Placer 920 and the Precision Disk 500 air disk drill.

The award-winning products were announced on the ASABE website. They will be recognized at the ASABE Agricultural Equipment Technology Conference on Jan. 28, 2013, in Kansas City, Mo.

“Using the Case IH customer-driven product development process, our company develops products that help farmers Be Ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities of today’s evolving agriculture industry,” says Kyle Russell, Senior Director of Marketing for Case IH. “We’re honored that ASABE has recognized multiple Case IH products with this distinction for 2013.”

For two decades, the AE50 awards have recognized the best products introduced in the agricultural, food and biological systems industries. An expert panel selects the winners based on commercial impact, contributions to agriculture and engineering, and advancements in engineering and technological significance. To qualify for the distinctive awards, each development must have been produced, advertised and made available for sale in the 2012 calendar year.

About the winning Case IH equipment:

2013 Axial-Flow Combine Cab

The newly redesigned cab on Case IH Axial-Flow combines has advanced even further to set the industry standard in convenience, comfort and operator ergonomics. The new cab will be part of all Axial-Flow combine models.

Features of the new cab include a slim Multifunction Propulsion Handle, redesigned with controls within a finger’s reach. It contains an upgraded right-hand console with simple ergonomic controls and slide rail that allows for adjustment of the display, placement of a cup-holder and office tools. Multiple convenient storage locations have been added featuring brushed-chrome styling. Operators can stay tuned in and connected on the go with a Bluetooth radio, and a training seat opens to a convenient, portable electric refrigerator to keep food and drinks cool and handy. Leg and foot room has been added due to increased seat travel space. A red leather luxury cab seat option is available for comfort during long harvest days and nights. In addition, all models use the AFS Pro 700 display for yield monitoring and machine and guidance control in the cab. Operators will now have better lighting when harvest requires working around the clock, as the new combine cab boasts eight lights, two more than previous models.

Axial-Flow Combine Pivoting Grain Spout

Operators can now control a pivoting grain spout with the Multifunction Propulsion Handle, adjusting the flow of grain up to 3 feet without changing the speed of the grain cart or combine. In combination with the independent cross-auger control launched last year, producers will have more flexibility during the challenging grain cart fill process.

Nutri-Placer 920

The Nutri-Placer 920 is designed for productivity and uptime while placing nutrients in the root zone to maximize return on investment.

The Nutri-Placer 920 features a front-mounted coulter bar with five-section flex and active hydraulic down pressure to maintain uniform depth and accurate fertilizer placement over a wide range of field conditions. Utilizing double tubes with fore and aft bracing provides the frame strength that allows for longer implement life and greater stress relief.

The Nutri-Placer 920 offers a choice of either a 1,650-gallon or 2,050-gallon tank. The all-new tank chassis centers the tank over the axle for consistent positive tongue weight. Additionally, a low center of gravity is created, offering more stability.

The Nutri-Placer 920 also offers overall improved transportability with an innovative X-Wing frame design that folds for narrow transportation width and low transportation height.

Precision Disk 500 Air Disk Drill

Case IH now offers a single-disk air drill with an integral mounted seed tank. An agronomic design, productivity and versatility describe the Case IH Precision Disk 500T, and the new Precision Disk 500 version that pairs with the Case IH Precision Air 2280 - 3430 air systems. At the heart of these all-new drills is a completely new parallel link row unit designed for improved residue handling, seed depth placement and closing to improve emergence and stand establishment. The 500T also offers optional GPS-controlled, 4-section overlap control. Whether seeding no-till soybeans into corn stalks or milo residue, or hybrid rice into stale seedbeds or conventionally-tilled fields, the new Precision Disk 500T and 500 are ready to meet seeding needs.

Case IH "Red Power" Skid Steer Generates More Than $75,000 for FFA

The final bid of $77,000 won Evolution AG LLC the online auction for “Red Power” – a one-of-a-kind skid steer donated by Case IH to raise funds for the organization. Evolution AG LLC is a recently formed Case IH dealership and is already having an impact with its support of Agricultural Education and the FFA.

In fact, 89 percent of the sale proceeds will go to the National FFA Foundation and 10 percent to the Ohio FFA Foundation. One percent will be awarded to Buckeye Valley FFA, the local chapter selected by Evolution AG LLC, which is the parent of JR Equipment, Inc., Hill Implement Co., and Agri-Trac, all with locations in Ohio.

“We congratulate Evolution AG on its winning bid,” says Kyle Russell, Case IH Senior Director of Marketing. “Case IH has a long history of support for FFA and youth programs, and we are proud to contribute to a program that has done so much to help students Be Ready for future careers in agriculture.”

Doug Loudenslager, one of the owners of Evolution AG LLC is thrilled to bring “Red Power” to Ohio. As a former FFA member and national officer, he knows the tremendous impact the organization has on members, as well as communities. He also served as Chief Operating Officer of the National FFA Organization and National FFA Foundation from 2004 to 2009.

“Evolution AG and Case IH recognize the big job in front of us,” says Loudenslager. “It is widely recognized that we’ll need to double food production in the next 30 years. It’s going to take not only new developments in technology and equipment, we also are going to need talented and motivated young people who are excited about the opportunities offered in the agricultural industry.

Anything we can do to encourage young people, especially at the high school level to get a good educational and leadership development foundation with agricultural education and the FFA, and then go on to post-secondary education, will help us collectively as an industry.”

The online auction kicked off at the 2012 Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa, where “Red Power” was on display in the Case IH exhibit. Crowds of show attendees checked out its many special upgrades and high-tech features. Created as a cooperative project between Case IH and its sister company, Case Construction, “Red Power” is a Case model SV250 skid steer, which features 82 gross engine horsepower and a 2,500-pound rated operating capacity (ROC). This special-edition skid steer sports dual chrome exhaust stacks, custom eight-spoke-pattern wheels, tinted cab windows, a custom red leather seat, special LED lighting and other premium features.

The auction was conducted by Purple Wave, a full-service equipment auction firm, from Aug. 28 through Sept. 30. Purple Wave donated its 10 percent buyer’s fee to support FFA as well. “We were honored to be part of this project to benefit the unparalleled programs the FFA delivers,” says Jerrod Westfahl, President and Chief Executive Officer of Purple Wave.

“We truly appreciate this significant contribution from Case IH and Purple Wave to support FFA programs and activities,” says Rob Cooper, National FFA Foundation Executive Director. “Proceeds from the sale of the Case IH ‘Red Power’ skid steer will help our members on the local, state and national level.”

Buckeye Valley FFA Adviser Jamie Gregory is excited to have the additional funds and plans to use them to bolster ongoing programs within the chapter.

Historic Irma Harding Brand Revitalized To Promote New Product Line

In the 1950s, there was another popular name among rural families: Irma Harding®.

Irma served as the spokeswoman for International Harvester refrigerators and freezers and promoted the products to U.S. farm women.

“Irma Harding is a wonderful part of our International Harvester history,” says Sarah Pickett, Case IH Licensing and Merchandising Manager. “We are proud to introduce the Irma Harding name under our heritage International Harvester brand as well as a new line of products that evoke the American heritage Irma represents.”

The first product available will be Irma Harding peanuts, which will be sold at select retailers, including Tractor Supply Company. These peanuts are the first new licensed item in the food and food-related product category under the heritage International Harvester brand. Case IH is partnering with Whitley’s Peanut Company, a traditional nut and snack food company, to bring Irma Harding Peanuts to store shelves.

The peanuts are high-quality and slow-roasted, packaged with a unique look that connects with rural Americana.

“We are excited to be partnering with Whitley’s Peanut Factory to provide the finest nuts, chosen to meet strict size, quality and freshness criteria for our Irma Harding peanuts,” explains Pickett.

In 1947, International Harvester developed refrigerator and freezer lines and created Irma Harding as the character spokeswoman. Her authentic and rural “personality” appealed to U.S. farm women when these new products were introduced to them. International Harvester hired five home economists to answer inquiries and conduct cooking and testing experiments in company kitchens on Irma’s behalf. In addition, 70 home economists and sales women were hired throughout the U.S. to travel regionally and educate homemakers of the day about freezing and preserving food.

Through various sales tools, including advertisements and recipe booklets, Irma Harding also helped educate housewives about the health and financial benefits of using cooling and freezing techniques and food storage systems. Irma also appeared on packaging and “authored” many cookbooks.

With a persona that is deeply rooted in America’s rural history, the products Irma now represents invoke memories of all that was and still is good in American households and homemaking.

“We are honored to have the industry recognize the Patriot 4430 and its performance and efficiency that allow operators to cover more acres with less fuel,” says Mark Burns, Case IH Application Equipment Marketing Manager. The Case IH Patriot 4430 is the first sprayer to join the Case IH Efficient Power family, using Selective Catalytic Reduction technology to meet EPA Tier 4A compliance while providing more fuel efficiency and power.

CropLife IRON ShowStopper Award

The Midwest Ag Industries Exposition showcases the best application equipment and products in agriculture each August.

The ShowStopper award “is given to that one product at the MAGIE show that literally stops attendee traffic, keeping everyone buzzing all day long,” explains Eric Sfiligoj, Editor of CropLife IRON. This year, the award was based on formal voting by MAGIE attendees.

This is the second CropLife IRON award for the Patriot 4430 sprayer. In December 2011, the Patriot 4430 won the magazine’s Product of the Year award. “The Product of the Year is similar to a People’s Choice award,” says Sfiligoj. “The Case IH Patriot 4430 sprayer received more than half of all votes received, making it a clear choice for this honor.”

Increased Power, Efficiency

The Patriot 4430 uses a Case IH FPT 8.7-liter engine rated at 325 base horsepower, with a boost to 356 horsepower to cover more acres faster.

“This is more than a 12 percent increase in both base and boost horsepower over previous models,” says Burns. “Customers tell us how they appreciate the Patriot 4430’s increased power, better fuel efficiency and accurate application.”

Patriot sprayers are known for their accurate application. AFS® AccuGuide™ automated guidance helps reduce skips and overlaps, while the AutoBoom™ automatic boom height control maintains optimum spray height for better coverage. The optional Case IH-exclusive AIM Command® spray system maintains both a constant rate and pressure under a range of speeds and conditions.

More Cab Comfort

The Patriot 4430 also features an enhanced Surveyor™ cab design that offers exceptional cab space with 132 cubic feet of interior space and more than 90 square feet of total glass for better visibility.

“Case IH engineers kept customers’ needs for operational efficiency and comfort in mind with the Patriot 4430,” says Burns. “Vast amounts of cab glass offer unrestricted visibility to the front and sides. The seat-mounted control console moves with the seat for near-effortless operation of sprayer controls.”

The cab-forward, rear-engine Patriot design provides more equal weight distribution, allowing operators to get into wet fields earlier with less rutting and soil compaction.

“These two ‘People’s Choice’ awards the Case IH Patriot 4430 has received from CropLife IRON are the result of listening to our customers and meeting their requests for operational efficiency and accurate, timely application,” Burns says. “We understand that application windows are narrow and every hour in the field counts. Patriot sprayers are designed to let operators work longer, and that’s what continues to set Patriot sprayers apart.”

Case IH Announces CVT Option for Farmall B Series Tractors

RACINE, Wis. ̶ Case IH Farmall® compact tractors now offer an easy-to-use, continuously variable transmission (CVT) option for the new model Farmall 40B CVT, 45B CVT and 50B CVT Class 3 cab tractors. A CVT option allows Case IH Farmall customers to get more done in less time while maximizing fuel efficiency and managing operating costs.

Because CVT automatically selects the best gear ratio for the desired speed, the operator no longer has to select or shift gears. “It eliminates the need for clutching or shifting, which means operators may prefer a Farmall with CVT to their car, says Greg Lucey, Case IH Farmall Marketing Manager. “In fact, pulling a load with a CVT-equipped Farmall is easier than driving a pickup with an automatic transmission.”

Unlike standard transmissions, which have a distinct number of gear ratios, a CVT has an infinite number of gear ratios, which allows the engine to always run at its most efficient speed – regardless of ground speed. And unlike hydrostatic transmissions that depend on speed for higher torque, a CVT is more efficient when pulling a load.

While CVT is common in high-horsepower tractors, it is a technology not commonly found in compact tractors. “As a full-line equipment company that provides trusted support to its customers, Case IH is able to utilize technology developed for larger tractors and integrate it into the Farmall line,” Lucey explains. “When Farmall tractors were introduced in 1923, they featured a revolutionary narrow design and higher ground clearance – and nearly 90 years later, they continue to lead the industry in innovation.”

Known for rugged versatility, proven performance and functional design, and powered by Tier 3-compliant diesel engines with 40, 45 and 50 engine horsepower, the new line-up of Case IH Farmall B CVT tractors are the ultimate workhorses. “Easily equipped with a large variety of well-matched implements, these Farmall CVT tractors provide the right equipment for the right job – whether you’re hauling, mowing, loading, towing or blowing,” says Lucey.

Redesigned Cab Featured in 2013 Case IH Axial-Flow Combines

RACINE, Wis. – Case IH proudly unveils new features on its legendary Axial-Flow® combines for 2013, including a redesigned cab and a new folding auger with an industry-exclusive pivoting spout option.

“Case IH Axial-Flow combines continue to set the industry benchmark for uptime, grain quality and grain savings, regardless of the crop or field size,” says Nate Weinkauf, Case IH Combine Marketing Manager. “Now, Axial-Flow combines are designed to help producers simplify harvest even further through the ultimate operator environment, added innovation and harvest control. Every design innovation and engineering improvement puts these machines another step ahead.”

The Ultimate Operator Environment

Guided by input from producers and custom operators, Case IH has taken the largest and quietest cab in the industry for large-model combines and made it even better.

“Our new, redesigned Case IH cab has advanced even further to set the industry standard in convenience, comfort and operator ergonomics for your office in the field,” says Weinkauf. “Best of all, this new cab will be part of all models of Axial-Flow combines.”

Operators can stay tuned in and connected on the go with an iPod plug-in, and a training seat opens to a convenient, portable electric refrigerator to keep food and drinks cool and handy. Leg and foot room has been added due to increased seat travel space. In addition, a red leather luxury cab seat option is available for comfort during long harvest days and nights.

“We understand the long hours that producers spend in the combine. Our goal was to offer every convenience of an efficient, comfortable working office and make it available in every Axial-Flow model,” says Weinkauf. “By introducing more powerful, more intuitive, and more efficient combines, Case IH is helping farmers be ready for whatever harvest may bring now and in the seasons to come.”

In addition, all models use the state-of-the-art AFS Pro 700 display for yield monitoring and machine and guidance control in the cab. The AFS Pro 700 is compatible with all Case IH equipment, so it can easily be transferred to your tractor cab in the spring for planter control and later to your sprayer to control your application maps.

Unload Simplified

To make on-the-go unload more comfortable and safer as header widths continue to grow, Case IH has added new options to its auger offerings. In addition to the two fixed auger options that extend up to 28 feet, 9 inches, two folding auger options are now available: a 28-foot-9-inch auger that folds at a 90-degree angle and a 34-foot auger that folds at a 135-degree angle.
In addition, operators can now control a pivoting grain spout with the Multifunction Propulsion Handle, adjusting the flow of grain up to 3 feet without changing the speed of the grain cart or combine. In combination with the independent cross-auger control launched last year, producers will have more flexibility during the challenging grain cart fill process.

“Case IH Axial-Flow combine designs are driven by suggestions from our customers and designed to keep operators in the field working efficiently,” says Weinkauf.

In addition, optional powered grain tank covers are controlled from the cab so the operator can concentrate on harvesting.

Efficient Power, Efficient Operation

From the feeding system to the patented Case IH AFX rotor with its concentric rotor cage design, Axial-Flow combines continue to create smooth crop flow, improving throughput and putting more high-quality grain in the tank.

As part of the Case IH Efficient Power family, Case IH Axial-Flow 30 Series models feature added horsepower to power through tough conditions with fuel-efficient Case IH FPT Tier 4 SCR engines. Across the Case IH lineup, the same proven power plants deliver an average 10 percent efficiency advantage over comparable Tier 3 models.

“Case IH has been continuously improving the Axial-Flow AFX rotor, always setting the trend as a leader in harvesting,” says Weinkauf. “Overall, the simple and reliable Axial-Flow design, with fewer moving parts, helps producers stay in the field to achieve better yields.”
